Our Pastor
Isaiah 42:12 says, “Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.” We who live near the ocean are constantly reminded of the beauty of our surroundings as well as the great potential danger of living in a “hurricane alley.” This is a good metaphor for the spiritual purpose of our church. All the services and ministries of BBC are designed to help people learn how to glorify God and to safeguard their lives and families through the storms of life. Our church is Bible-based, Christ-centered, and people-oriented. Come be a part of a church that is faithfully declaring God’s praise in our coastal community.
Scott Barber has served faithfully in the ministry for 27 years. He earned a BA in Bible (1978) from Bob Jones University and a Master of Ministry degree (1995) from Northland Baptist Bible College. After pastoring in Elizabeth City, NC and church planting in New Orleans, LA, the Lord moved Pastor Barber and his family to Racine, WI in 1990 where he pastored Calvary Baptist Church for 10 years. He then served as assistant pastor at Greendale Baptist Church in Greendale, WI. In 2004 the Lord led Pastor Barber to accept the senior pastorate at Bible Baptist Church of Hilton Head Island where he has served now for the past two years. He and his wife Tresa have four boys: Nathan, Jonathan, Matthew, and Daniel. All four have surrendered to be used of the Lord in fulltime Christian service. Nathan and Jonathan are married and serve with their wives at Falls Baptist Church, the home of Baptist College of Ministry in Menomonee Falls, WI from which they are graduates. Matthew is a senior and Daniel is a freshman at BCM this year. Pastor Barber is known for his clear Bible preaching, his uncompromising stand on God’s Word, and a genuine love for people.
